Website in a week: 4 pages and a blog
Building a small business website can often be a long, drawn-out and expensive exercise. But it doesn’t need to be. In fact, a small website can be built in just seven days.
Last week, I built a four-page website complete with a blog from start to finish. The website uses SquareSpace, a highly versatile platform that offers beautiful, highly customisable templates and loads of built-in features that make it one of the best options for small sites.
SquareSpace is also user-friendly for small business owners who are not highly tech-savvy. Unlike some other platforms like WordPress and Joomla that require a developer to make even small changes, business owners can make content tweaks and add their own blog posts, with minimal training. Why is this important? Keeping website content fresh helps with organic search ranking (Google loves it!).
This build, for King Stump Removal, included all the standard features that you expect in a small business website including a design that reflects the business branding, mobile responsiveness, SEO optimised content, clear calls to action, easy methods of contacting the business and a landing page with a contact form.
There are many other tasks required to get a new website live and tracking on Google which I manage as part of a website build:
connecting your purchased domain to the site
setting up Google Analytics and Google Search console
submitting a site map to Google so Google knows your website and its pages are available to appear in search results
helping you to share the site as widely as possible (hence this blog post)
adding links to your social media accounts
setting up and verifying a Google My Business account (essential for local businesses)
As a SquareSpace Circle member for marketers with multiple SquareSpace sites, I can offer clients a 20% discount on the first year of hosting.
The best thing about my website in a week project, other than learning a bunch of really interesting information about tree stump removal? A happy client who has a brand-new website they love and that reflects their brand:
